What Upside Is
Upside is a free cashback app that helps you save money on everyday purchases like gas, groceries, and restaurants. Instead of earning points like some apps, Upside gives you real cash back that can be withdrawn directly to your bank, PayPal, or gift cards.
It’s especially popular for gas savings since you can open the app, claim an offer at a station near you, pay normally with your card, and then Upside automatically tracks your purchase and credits your account.
How Upside Works in Practice
- Download the app: (free on iOS or Android).
- Enter an invite code: (mine is BXAGY) to get a signup bonus, or simply Click here to sign up with my code.
- Claim an offer: at a nearby store or gas station.
- Pay with your linked card: once you link it and confirm.
- Get cash back: usually within 24–48 hours, but can vary based on bank transfers or gift cards.
Cashout options include:
- Direct deposit to your bank.
- PayPal.
- Virtual Visa rewards cards.
- Gift cards (Amazon, Target, etc.).
My Real Results with Upside
So far, I’ve earned $27.91 using Upside. Most of that came from:
- Circle K with consistent gas savings.
- Giant Eagle shopped one time with cashback on groceries.
I like that you don’t need to change where you shop, just claim the offers before you check out. It feels like “free money” on top of what I was already spending or planning to spend.
Here are some screenshots of what the app looks like for me.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Real cashback, not just points
- Wide coverage at major gas stations
- Fast payouts (PayPal and bank work smoothly)
- Signup bonus with invite codes
Cons
- Cashback % isn’t always huge (sometimes only a few cents per gallon and changes daily).
- Must remember to claim an offer before paying (in my experience).
- Grocery and restaurant coverage varies by area.
Final Verdict
Upside is one of the easiest cashback apps I’ve tried. It doesn’t replace Ibotta or Fetch, but it stacks nicely with them, especially for gas savings.
If you drive regularly or shop at supported stores, it’s a no-brainer to download. The only issue I have is that I wish it offered more stores in my area (no Walmart or Sheetz).
